Why am I writing this blog? Because my life is divided into tiny time increments that make it impossible for me to feel like I accomplished anything. Because I spend endless hours sitting at the side of the pool counting laps and watching swim practices. Because my personal life and goals aren't just in the backseat this year, we left them on the side of the road wherever we were last summer. So in order to feel like I'm learning something and making progress in some area of my life, why not chronicle all the things I'm learning about helping my first grader and preschooler progress in math and reading, science and spelling. And, it has taken a fair amount of work to figure out which books are worth reading, what the right reading levels are, how to best teach math, etc. There are far better education blogs out there, but this is what I'm learning in the trenches.
